Library Professionals Encouraged to Embrace Emerging Trends for Enhanced Service Delivery
Library and information professionals have been called upon to adopt modern global practices in library operations and service delivery to better meet the needs of their patrons.
The National Librarian and Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria, Prof. Chinwe Anunobi, made this appeal during the opening ceremony of a five-day Capacity Building Workshop held in Enugu. The workshop was organized by the National Library of Nigeria to enhance the skills and knowledge of library professionals.
Prof. Anunobi emphasized that the current realities demand innovative, consistent, and dynamic approaches to library operations and services to maintain relevance and address the rapidly evolving needs of clients. She highlighted the transformative power of librarianship, noting that librarians are not merely custodians of information but also facilitators of knowledge with the potential to impact lives and communities positively.
The workshop, hosted at the Centre for Advanced Library and Information Management (CALIM), focused on the theme “Concepts, Technologies, and Strategies for Optimal Library Management.” Participants engaged with six key modules through interactive syndicate discussions and question-and-answer sessions to ensure effective knowledge transfer.
Topics covered included:
- Overview of New Trends in Library Operations and Services
- Use of Interactive Media in Library Services
- Research Data Management in Library and Information Services
- Automated Newspaper Indexing and Abstracting Basics, among others.
One of the participants, Lt. Col. Bello Ahmadu, expressed gratitude to the National Librarian for organizing the impactful workshop. He noted that the knowledge gained would be implemented across various organizations and looked forward to similar future programs.
The workshop concluded with participants receiving certificates of completion, marking a significant step toward advancing library practices and enhancing service delivery in the sector.
